Sri Hari Stotram – with meaning in English


जगज्जालपालं चलत्कण्ठमालं
शरच्चन्द्रभालं महादैत्यकालं
नभोनीलकायं दुरावारमायं
सुपद्मासहायम् भजेऽहं भजेऽहं॥1॥



I bow again and again in devotion to Him (Lord Vishnu)—
Who is the Protector of the cosmic web (जगज्जालपालं) (The one who sustains and safeguards the entire universe, maintaining order and harmony within the creation),
Who is adorned with the moving garland upon His neck (चलत्कण्ठमालं) (Often refers to the serpent garland (Kaṇṭha-mālā) that rests on Lord Vishnu’s neck, symbolizing divine energy, and the dynamic nature of the universe),
Whose forehead shines like the autumn full moon (शरच्चन्द्रभालं) (referring to His divine beauty, radiance, and the serene luminosity of His countenance),
Who is the destroyer of mighty demons (महादैत्यकालं),

Whose body is as deep blue as the vast sky (नभोनीलकायं) (referring to His infinite, vast, and all-pervading nature, the cosmic expanse),
Whose Māyā is beyond all resistance (दुरावारमायं) (His supreme, inscrutable power that cannot be overcome by any being)
Who is ever accompanied by the gracious Goddess Lakshmi (सुपद्मासहायम्),
To Him I offer my worship again and again.

सदाम्भोधिवासं गलत्पुष्पहासं
जगत्सन्निवासं शतादित्यभासम् ।
गदाचक्रशस्त्रं लसत्पीतवस्त्रं
हसच्चारुवक्त्रं भजेऽहं भजेऽहम् ॥ 2 ॥

I bow again and again in devotion to Him  (Sri Hari) —
Who forever dwells in the boundless ocean – Kṣīrasāgar (सदाम्भोधिवासं),
Whose radiant smile is like blossoming flowers (गलत्पुष्पहासं),
Who is the eternal abode of the universe (जगत्सन्निवासं),
Who is shining with the brilliance of a hundred suns (शतादित्यभासम्).

Who holds the mace, discus, and celestial weapons (गदाचक्रशस्त्रं),
Who is adorned in dazzling yellow garments (लसत्पीतवस्त्रं),
Who is has a smiling and beautiful countenance (हसच्चारुवक्त्रं),
To Him I offer my worship again and again.

रमाकण्ठहारं श्रुतिव्रातसारं
जलान्तर्विहारं धराभारहारम् ।
चिदानन्दरूपं मनोज्ञस्वरूपं
धृतानेकरूपं भजेऽहं भजेऽहम् ॥ 3 ॥

I bow again and again in devotion to Him (Lord Vishnu) —
Who is the the garland at the neck of Ramā (Goddess Lakshmi) (रमाकण्ठहारं)
(It is an epithet used for Lord Viṣṇu, describing Him as the the one whose glory and majesty are like the divine necklace adorning Goddess Lakṣmī’s neck),
Who is the essence of all the sacred scriptures (श्रुतिव्रातसारं), 
Who has the ether (universe) as a playground (जलान्तर्विहारं), 
And Who relieves the earth of its burdens (धराभारहारम्)

Who is the very embodiment of divine bliss (चिदानन्दरूपं),
Who is enchanting in His celestial form (मनोज्ञस्वरूपं),
Yet assumes countless manifestations (धृतानेकरूपं) for the welfare of the universe.

To Him I offer my worship again and again.

जराजन्महीनं परानन्दपीनं
समाधानलीनं सदैवानवीनम् ।
जगज्जन्महेतुं सुरानीककेतुं
त्रिलोकैकसेतुं भजेऽहं भजेऽहम् ॥ 4 ॥

I bow again and again in devotion to Him (Lord Sri Hari)—
Who is free from old age and birth (जराजन्महीनं),
Who is abundant with supreme bliss (परानन्दपीनं),
Who is ever absorbed in perfect tranquility (समाधानलीनं),
And Who is eternally fresh and new (सदैवानवीनम्).

The very cause of creation of the universe (जगज्जन्महेतुं),
The glorious banner of the hosts of gods (सुरानीककेतुं),
The single bridge uniting the three worlds (त्रिलोकैकसेतुं).
To Him I offer my worship again and again.

कृताम्नायगानं खगाधीशयानं
विमुक्तेर्निदानं हरारातिमानम् ।
स्वभक्तानुकूलं जगद्वृक्षमूलं
निरस्तार्तशूलं भजेऽहं भजेऽहम् ॥ 5 ॥

I bow again and again in devotion to Him (Lord Vishnu)—
Whose glories are sung in the Amnāya (sacred Vedas) (कृताम्नायगानं),
Who reclines upon the mighty king of Birds, Garuḍa (खगाधीशयानं),
Who is the very source and giver of liberation (विमुक्तेर्निदानं),
And Who defeats all foes (destroys the pride of enemies) (हरारातिमानम्).

Who is ever favorable to His own devotees (स्वभक्तानुकूलं),
Who is the root of the cosmic tree that sustains the universe (जगद्वृक्षमूलं),
Who is the remover of the sorrows and afflictions of all beings (निरस्तार्तशूलं),
To Him I offer my worship again and again.

समस्तामरेशं द्विरेफाभकेशं
जगद्बिम्बलेशं हृदाकाशवेशम् ।
सदा दिव्यदेहं विमुक्ताखिलेहं
सुवैकुण्ठगेहं भजेऽहं भजेऽहम् ॥ 6 ॥

I bow again and again in devotion to Him (Sri Vishnu)—
Who is the supreme Lord of all celestial beings (समस्तामरेशं),
The color of whose hair resemble that of Honeybees (द्विरेफाभकेशं),
The Lord who is the reflected essence or sovereign of the entire universe (जगद्बिम्बलेशं ) (i.e. all of creation is His manifestation, and He pervades the universe as its sustaining and guiding presence),
Who He who dwells in the sky of every heart (हृदाकाशवेशम्) (Lord Vishnu is omnipresent, residing within the hearts of all beings, pervading them as inner consciousness and divine presence).

Who forever shines in a transcendental form (सदा दिव्यदेहं),
Who is free from all worldly bonds (विमुक्ताखिलेहं), 
And whose divine abode is the supreme Vaikunth (सुवैकुण्ठगेहं).

सुरालीबलिष्ठं त्रिलोकीवरिष्ठं
गुरूणां गरिष्ठं स्वरूपैकनिष्ठम् ।
सदा युद्धधीरं महावीरवीरं
भवाम्भोधितीरं भजेऽहं भजेऽहम् ॥ 7 ॥

I bow again and again in devotion to Him—
Who is more powerful than the enemies of Sura (Demi-gods) (सुरालीबलिष्ठं),
Who is Supreme among the three worlds (त्रिलोकीवरिष्ठं),
Who is the exhaulted among all the Gurus (गुरूणां गरिष्ठं),
And firmly established in His own divine form (स्वरूपैकनिष्ठम्).

Who is ever steady in battle or stands fearless in battle (सदा युद्धधीरं),
Who is the mighty hero of heroes (महावीरवीरं),
And who is the eternal shore of refuge across the vast ocean of worldly existence (भवाम्भोधितीरं),
To Him I offer my worship again and again.

रमावामभागं तलालग्ननागं
कृताधीनयागं गतारागरागम् ।
मुनीन्द्रैस्सुगीतं सुरैस्सम्परीतं
गुणौघैरतीतं भजेऽहं भजेऽहम् ॥ 8 ॥

I bow again and again in devotion to Him—
Who has Goddess Lakshmi on His left side (रमावामभागं),
Who rests upon the sacred serpent (तलालग्ननागं),
Who is the master of all sacrifices and rituals (कृताधीनयागं),
Who has transcended attachment and aversion and is beyond all worldly attachments (गतारागरागम्).

Who is glorified by the greatest sages (मुनीन्द्रैस्सुगीतं),
Who is revered by the celestial beings (सुरैस्सम्परीतं),
Who transsceneds all virtues, attributes and qualities yet remains the eternal refuge of all (गुणौघैरतीतं),
To Him I offer my worship again and again.

फलश्रुति ।

इदं यस्तु नित्यं समाधाय चित्तंपठेदष्टकं कण्ठहारं मुरारेः ।
स विष्णोर्विशोकं ध्रुवं याति लोकंजराजन्मशोकं पुनर्विन्दते नो ॥ 9 ॥

इति श्री परमहंसस्वामि ब्रह्मानन्दविरचितं श्रीहरिस्तोत्रम् ॥

Phalaśruti (Fruit of Recitation):

Whoever daily and devotedly meditates upon and recites the Aṣṭaka (अष्टकं) and the neck-adorned Murāre  – Lord Vishnu (कण्ठहारं मुरारेः), 
That devotee shall surely attain the sorrowless abode of Lord Viṣṇu (विष्णोर्विशोकं),
And certainly transcend the cycles of worldly life (ध्रुवं याति लोकं).

All sorrows of birth, old age, or grief in this world (जनरोगशोकं), 
Will never afflict them again (पुनर्विन्दते नो).

Thus concludes the Śrī Hari Stotram, composed by Paramahaṁsa Svāmī Brahmānanda, in devotion to the Supreme Lord Hari.
